On 6 July, Amarsul will launch its environmental awareness campaign on the beaches of the Setúbal Peninsula. Developed in partnership with the municipalities of Alcochete, Almada, Barreiro, Moita, Seixal, Sesimbra and Setúbal, the initiative aims to raise awareness amongst children, young people and adults of the importance of proper waste sorting and the preservation of beaches and coastal ecosystems.
Throughout the bathing season, the campaign will visit 11 beaches, promoting fun, educational and interactive activities tailored to different age groups. Through games, challenges and community-based activities, participants will be encouraged to reflect on the importance of recycling, reducing waste and adopting good practices whilst using beach facilities. Children and young people continue to play a central role in this initiative, taking part in activities that promote environmental literacy in a practical and fun way.
At the same time, activities will be organised for beachgoers, emphasising the importance of small gestures – such as disposing of waste correctly and using recycling bins properly – to help ensure cleaner and more pleasant beaches for everyone.
Last year, the campaign collected 464 tonnes of sorted waste. This year, Amarsul aims to continue promoting environmental awareness and engaging the public in adopting good practices for waste sorting and the responsible use of beach areas.
